On 5/25/2022, at 10:30AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Catherine Fernandes arrived unannounced to conduct a Required Annual inspection and met with Director Debra Brown. The center and playgrounds were inspected to conduct a health and safety check. Present during the inspection were 26 preschoolers and 11 finger print cleared staff members. The teacher/child ratio was being met today. There is an infant component at the location under license number 010213816. This center operates Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 5:30PM.
The day care operates out of The Mills College Campus in the education complex/Children's school building. There are three classrooms each with their own outdoor play space and bathrooms. The preschool classrooms are rooms 105, 109 and the geranium. Each of the classroom floors, surfaces, furniture and equipment appear to be safe, sanitary, in good repair and age appropriate for the children in care. The heating, lighting and ventilation is adequate. LPA Fernandes observed bottled waters available for the children. There are two toilets and two sinks in each of the classrooms which are sanitary and in operating conditions. There are supplies available for the children to wash and dry their hands. LPA did not observe any bodies of water, free standing water, cleaning supplies, or toxic items accessible to children during todays inspection. Due to COVID parents are providing lunch and snacks for their children, however there is available food for the children if needed. The outside play areas are located right outside of each of the classrooms and is fenced in. There are shaded areas, drinking water and age appropriate toys available to the children. All required documents are posted for public review. Due to COVID all sign in and outs are being done electronically. Disaster drills are being conducted at least once every 6 months, the last drill was recorded on 4/28/22. Each class is equipped with a fully stocked first aid kit, carbon monoxide, smoke detectors, a 3A40BC fire extinguishers and a pull down fire alarm. The fire system is hardwired.
The center roster was reviewed and a copy was obtained. A review of 10 children records and five staff files were reviewed and complete. Mandated reporter training is current for all staff. All staff have been fingerprint cleared and associated to the facility. At least one opening/closing staff member has a current CPR/First Aid certificate.
