On September 25, 2024, at 12:00 PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elimika Woods met with licensee Senovia Brown for an Unannounced Annual/Random Inspection. LPA disclosed the purpose of the inspection and was granted entry into the facility by the licensee. There were no children present during todays visit. The licensee stated that the facility operates from Monday to Friday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

LPA toured the facility inside and out to conduct a Health and Safety inspection. This single-story home was clean and orderly, with (centralized) heating and ventilation for the safety and comfort. The Isolation area of the home will be a section of the living room, away from other children in care.

The off-limits will be made inaccessible by closed and/or locked doors and visual supervision. LPA checked the cabinets in the on limit areas which includes the kitchen, child care room, bathroom, living and dining room, and any other cabinets or drawers accessible to children in care and did not observe any hazardous materials or toxins accessible to children during today’s inspection. There are no pools, hot tubs or any other bodies of water present in the on-limit areas during today's inspection.

ON LIMITS: Living and dining room, kitchen, child care room, and bathroom

OFF LIMITS: All bedrooms, back-yard, hallway bathroom, left side-yard, and converted garage

LPA tested the smoke detector and the carbon monoxide detectors in the kitchen and found them to be functioning properly. The licensee showed me her first aid kit that she keeps in the kitchen cabinet, and a fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher which meets standards established by the State Fire Marshal.

See 809-C for continuance.

This home has a fireplace that has a barricade/screen to prevent access by children in the living room. LPA asked the licensee does she transports children and the licensee stated that she does transport children and provided me with a copy of her current licensee. During the record review, LPA Woods checked the Health Records of the licensee, and found that the licensee is following the immunization laws which pertain to all childcare providers.

The licensee stated that for outdoor activities, she utilizes the local park play areas and was reminded by the LPA to have 100% visual supervision when away from the facility. The park is located around the corner from her facility and only takes a couple of minutes to get there walking.

No children's files were reviewed today. The licensee has not conducted or documented a fire and disaster drills since 03/01/2024. The licensee's Health and Safety training is completed, and CPR and First Aid certificate is current and expires on 01/2026. The licensee has completed mandated reporter training on 09/11/24. Per licensee there are no weapons of any kind in the home. The licensee is in ratio today. All required forms are posted and visible for public review.

Effective August 1, 2003, California Law requires Family Child Care Home licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to child's parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624B). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, fax, or electronic mail. LPA informed the licensee that all forms can be downloaded at www.ccld.ca.gov and encouraged the licensee to email childcareadvocatesprogram@dss.ca.gov to be included in the Child Care Quarterly Updates distribution list. The licensee was also reminded that Mandated Reporter Training ("General" and "Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting www.mandatedreporterca.com.
