LPA Sidney Cortez and LPA Michael Mathew met with Cindy Barreto for an unannounced annual/random inspection.

Present are the director, 6 staff and 21 children. There is 1 large classroom segmented into different play areas. Sign-in/sign-out sheets list the time and parents' full signature. There is a working phone. The last fire/emergency drill was 05/23/23. Director is current. Designation of Facility Responsibility was updated. Proper posting requirements were met. There is a carbon monoxide detector and a fire extinguisher.
Classroom furniture is in good condition. There are toys, books, crafts and educational supplies available. Floors were clean and safe. There is adequate heating, ventilation, and lighting. Bathroom toilets and sinks are working properly. Children are able to reach the sinks. There were adequate bathroom supplies. Kitchen/refrigerator area is clean. Children bring their own lunches. There were storage containers with lids for solid waste in the classroom. Director has extra food for children who do not bring their own and for emergencies. The center supplies snacks. Menus were posted. No insects or pests were seen. Inside, there is proper storage areas for each child with cubbies. There is adequate napping equipment (mats). Children's blankets/sleeping bags are adequately stored. There is drinking water available at all times inside and outside the center through with water bottles.

Isolation area for sick children is in the directors office. Director stated that there were no bodies of water or firearms on the premises. First aid kit is located in the classroom. Director has emergency earthquake supplies. Cleaning supplies are inaccessible to children, locked under the staircase.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department. Outside play area (securely fenced) is safe and free of hazards. There were a variety of toys and play materials. The area around the climbing playground equipment is cushioned with material that absorbs a fall. Sandbox is inspected daily. There is an outside shaded area.
A sample of Children's files (3) were examined. They list emergency information, a medical assessment, and an Admission Agreement.

A roster was obtained. Staff records (3) were reviewed. Staff records contain a health screening assessment, immunization records, and Mandated Reporter Training certificates. Required training will need to be completed every 2 years.

The director stated that at least one person trained in CPR/First Aid is always present. All individuals subject to a criminal record review have obtained clearance or a criminal record exemption.

There are no deficiencies cited today.

The director was reminded of the Department's Inspection authority. Director was encouraged to frequently visit the website at www.ccld.ca.gov for licensing regulations, forms and updates.


Exit interview conducted. Notice of site visit was posted at the time of the inspection, and must remain posted for 30 days. This report must be kept available for public review for 3 years.
