Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Cherie Acosta conducted an unannounced Case Management/ increase in capacity inspection. Present during today’s inspection was the licensee and her fingerprint cleared husband. There were 5 preschool aged children and 1 school aged child in care. Licensee has requested an increase in capacity to care for up to 14 children. Licensee has an approved fire clearance dated 2/29/24. Fire inspector indicated that the garage is off limits to children in care. Licensee has been licensed at this location since 10/19/2001.

The home was toured for Health and Safety Inspection. On limits area consist of the family room/child care room, living room, kitchen, and bathroom located in the hallway. The remainder of the home is off limits to children in care. The deck located in the backyard is used for outdoor play. The remainder of the backyard is off limits to children in care. Licensee understands that she must provide supervision at all times while children are playing on the deck to ensure children's safety. Off limits areas will be made inaccessible by use of gates, closed and/or locked doors and visual supervision. The home has a hot tub that is covered. The hot tub cover is not latched and locked. There are no firearms on the premises as stated by the licensee. The fireplace is barricaded to prevent access by children. LPA verified that the fire extinguisher 2A10BC is fully charged. The home is equipped with both a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. There is a working telephone in the home. The home provides appropriate toys, learning materials and play equipment.

The licensee has current CPR and First Aid which expires 10/24. Mandated reporter training was completed 6/2/23.

Operation of a Family Child Care Home. The home shall be free from defects or conditions which might endanger a child. Safety precautions shall include but not be limited to:All licensees shall ensure the inaccessibility of pools... hot tubs, spas, fish ponds and similar bodies of water through a pool cover or by surrounding the pool with a fence.

Licensee shall ensure the hot tub cover is properly latched and locked at all times when children are in care. Licensee shall submit a letter to CCL ensuring she understands and shall comply with this requirement by 3/28/24.

... Pool covers shall be strong enough to completely support the weight of an adult and shall be placed on the pool and locked while the pool is not in use. This requirement was not met as evidenced by: hot tub cover was not properly latched and locked which poses a potential risk to the health and safety of children in care.

Licensee shall also submit pictures to CCL of the properly latched and locked cover. • Failure to correct will result in a $100 per day civil penalty until corrected. Repeat violations are $250 per violation and $100 per day until corrected.
