13 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Soleil Marx met with Facility Representative, Leslie Dillon, for the purpose of delivering findings to a complaint investigation alleging that staff yell at day care children and staff use inappropriate discipline practices with day care children. The purpose of today's inspection was explained. LPA observed a census of 42 preschool age children being supervised by five staff.
Throughout the course of the investigation, LPA made observations of staff/child interactions and conducted interviews with staff, authorized representatives, and children.
LPA observed staff communicating with and guiding children using a tone of voice of an appropriate volume. LPA observed teachers getting down to children’s level while speaking with them. LPA observed while inside the classroom, you could not hear staff talking unless within close proximity. Staff statements revealed inside they use an inside voice with children and the only time their voice is raised is when they are outside and there is a safety concern that needs their immediate attention, and they are not in close enough proximity to intervene. |
