There is no swimming pool or other bodies of water on the premises. There are no firearms or ammunition allowed or stored on the premises. Per Center Director, no smoking is allowed on site. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other hazardous items are made inaccessible. No poisons were observed during the inspection.

Furniture and equipment is free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. During inspection, LPA observed in the preschool classroom a beige child size couch with rips and the foam is showing. Licensee is not able to sanitize couch as required due to the foam that has been exposed. In the two’s classroom, the children’s furniture and shelving unit can be easily tipped over due to not being anchored. In the Pre-K classroom, the shelving units are not anchored and can be tipped over.

Outdoor activity space is provided for the preschool children. The play yard has fencing that meets Title 22 requirements. There is a climbing structure that is plastic and metal. Per director, the artificial grass was removed from the steps and platforms; leaving glue with paper material in its wake. Per director, an invoice was sent in to have new artificial grass installed. The small climbing component has yellow metal bars with paint worn off, leaving exposed metal. The climbing structure is missing the age appropriate sticker. Areas around high climbing equipment have cushioning material to absorb falls. Licensee is using wood chip as cushioning. The shade metal poles are not cushioned. The cushioning on the poles may assist in preventing a child from sustaining an injury due to running into the metal poles.

Center Director, Monica Curry, was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Upon notification from the Department, the licensee will comply and act immediately to terminate the employment of, remove from the facility or bar from entering the facility for any person it is deemed necessary while the Department considers granting or denying an exemption.

The facility maintains compliance with staff-child ratios, one teacher with 12 preschool children. There is at least one person trained in CPR and Pediatric First Aid is present when children are at the facility or at offsite activities. The La Petite center director or fully qualified teacher designated to act in the director’s absence has been reported to the Department.

The person who signs the child in/out of the facility shall use their full legal signature and record the time of day. Licensee is utilizing an electronic sign in/out. All individuals who are authorized to sign a child in/out have their own PIN. All children are under supervision, including visual supervision, of a teacher at all times. Facility maintains a ratio of one teacher supervising no more than 12 preschool children in care. LPA reviewed a sample of children’s files and observed files were complete with contact information for authorized representative and or relatives or others who can assume responsibility for the child and medical assessment.

LPA reviewed a sample of staff files and observed files were complete with health screening, immunization records for influenza, pertussis and measles and current documentation of completed mandated reporter training. Menus are posted at least one week in advance where an authorized representative can view them.

Currently, licensee does have an infant program. For future reference, LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with Center Director, Monica Curry, and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee [facility representative] of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.

LPA and Licensee discussed the Community Care Licensing website www.ccld.ca.gov which will provide access to Provider Information Notices (PINs), Quarterly Updates, COVID-19 Information and Resources, Mandated Reporter Training, Safe Sleep in Child Care, Lead Poisoning Facts, Forms and Regulations.

Per Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 3, of the California Code of Regulations, no deficiency was cited during today’s inspection. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Center Director, Monica Curry. Appeal rights were provided.

This report shall be made available to the public upon request. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
