32 | Provider physically checks on sleeping infants every fifteen minutes and the requirement to document any signs of distress which includes but is not limited to flushed skin color, increase in body temperature, restlessness and labored breathing was discussed. Infants can be visually observed through an open door if sleeping in a separate room. Individual Infant Sleeping Plan was discussed and a copy was provided to licensee. Infants up to 12 months of age are placed on their backs for sleeping.
Licensee ensures that children in care are supervised at all times and is aware children shall not be left in parked vehicles. Car seats are used for transportation purposes only and are not used for sleeping children. The outdoor play area in the backyard is fenced and was inspected. LPA observed that there was a lawn mower, an electric saw that was unplugged on top of a shelf and a connected propane tank. The door leading to the back yard was locked from the top where the children could not reach, however on the facility sketch, the back yard was deemed as accessible.
Today, staff #2 removed the lawn mower and saw to an inaccessible area of the yard. Staff #2 also disconnected the propane tank from the BBQ pit. In the play yard, there was a large canopy that was toppled over which caused it to cover the play equipment. The play yard will be deemed off limits (facility sketch was updated today). Upon the repair, removal or replacement of the broken canopy, the licensee will contact the Department to reinspect the yard for approval. Deficiency cleared today.
LPA reviewed a sample of children’s files and observed files were complete with emergency information as required. Licensee’s Mandated Reporter Training was completed on 1/11/2023. Licensee’s pediatric CPR/First Aid expires on 1/9/2025. A review of records indicates that 2 out of 3 staff and/or volunteers have immunization records on file for influenza, pertussis and measles.
Upon arrival, LPA’s Ocegueda and Jimenez met with observed staff #3 who was caring for children while licensee and staff #2 were upstairs. Upon record review, it was determined that staff #3 did not have a criminal record clearance or exemption. There are no excluded individuals present at this home.
