in operable conditions (tested at 12:45 P.M.). The facility has 2-A:10-B:C type of fire extinguisher. Licensee stated that she owns no firearms, and no one smokes in the facility. LPA observed cleaning products are stored in the lower kitchen cabinets under the sink, and the cabinets have child safety latch. Knives are stored inside a plastic container in the upper kitchen cabinets above the stove. LPA observed household medications are stored in the upper kitchen cabinets, and the cabinets have child safety latch. Licensee stated that no medications are currently being provided for the current children in care. Licensee stated that licensee is a member of the food program and licensee provides meals and snacks to children.
The facility is a one-story house. There is no fireplace in the facility. The home has a swamp cooler. The home has a wall heater, but, according to the licensee, the wall heater is no longer being used, and it is not connected to the gas line. The wall heater has a metal gate surrounding it.
During this visit, LPA also observed two birds, one frog, one bearded dragon, and one snake. The frog, bearded dragon, one bird, and the snake are inside the container.
Licensee has first aid kit box stored in the upper kitchen cabinets above the refrigerator in the kitchen. Electrical outlets in the bathroom are covered with child safety plugs.
Bathroom: Toilet, sink and faucet were operable. LPA observed cleaning products, mouthwash, and shampoo stored under the bathroom sink and secured with child safety lock.
Licensee stated that when a child shows signs of illness, the child is separated from other children in the hallway of the facility. Licensee stated that parents are called immediately.
Outdoor: The facility has no body of water on the premises. LPA observed a slide, ladder for the slide, and other toys at the front yard (outdoor play area). Per licensee, children do not nap at the facility. Per licensee, licensee took out the ladder of the slide due to it is windy. Also, children only play outdoors when the weather permits.
At the time of inspection, Licensee is aware of the requirement to report unusual incidents and/or injuries to the parent/guardian and Licensing on the day of the incident and/or 24 hours of incident by telephone, fax and/or in writing to the Department. Licensee is familiar with the Unusual Incident Report form, LIC624B. The report on unusual incident/injuries can also be mailed to unusualIncidentreport@dss.ca.gov
