Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), V. Wheatley conducted an unannounced case management inspection regarding an unusual incident that was reported to the Department in September 2022 regarding Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. The director and principal Dr. Hilarie Dyson arrived during the inspection.

LPA arrived at the facility and met with the office manager, Ana Pereyda who led the LPA on a tour of the facility. LPA observed 41 napping and supervised properly.

LPA inquired regarding the 8 confirmed cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. The children with symptoms were required to stay home and asked to go to a licensed physician. The children were allowed to return with no symptoms and no active blisters.

The parents with children enrolled were informed by letter of the outbreak as well as provided a handout on what to look for and how to treat the illness. Also, the HFMD information on prevention was noted in the weekly bulletin. LPA received a copy of the letter and handout.

In addition to the parents being informed the classroom was temporality closed for one day and a half for deep cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing. The Office of Environmental Health and Safety inspected the classroom and approved the classroom to reopen.

A staff meeting was held in regards to having more regular cleaning and disinfecting of the high touch areas as well as the toys and manipulatives. The staff are increasing the hand washing with children. Also, the cases were reported to Los Angeles County Public Health Department.

LPA did not observe any health and safety concerns. There are no citations.

Exit interview. A copy was provided.
