32 | The Director stated that there was one child who had bitten another child on different occasions. According to the Director, these incidents occurred very quickly, before staff could intervene. The Director explained that the center has a policy regarding biting: if a child bites another child three times in one day, the child is sent home. When staff observe a child biting, they separate the children and explain that “we do not bite our friends.” If a child consistently bites, the facility assigns a staff member to shadow the child to prevent further incidents. Per Director, if any incidents occur parents are notified via Brightwheel.
Staff confirmed that there have been incidents where children were bitten. Staff stated that if a child bites three times in one day, the child is sent home. Staff also reported that they attempt to separate children immediately if someone is bitten.
Children stated that they enjoy attending the center. One child reported that they had been bitten while in care.
Parents interviewed did not express any concerns regarding the above mentioned allegation. Some parents stated they are satisfied with the services provided by the facility, while others expressed dissatisfaction.
LPAs did not observe any biting incidents during the visit. All children were observed to be properly supervised.
LPAs reviewed the parent handbook and did not find any documentation regarding a biting policy.
Based on LPA’s interviews, the allegation of staff did not prevent child from being bitten multiple times by another children in care. is Substantiated. Meaning the preponderance of evidence standard has been met, therefore the above allegation is found to be Substantiated. California Code of Regulations, (Title 22), are being cited on the attached LIC 9099D.
Exit interview was conducted with Director Shannon Kelly. Appeals Rights and the Notice of Site visit were provided. The Notice of Site Visit must remain posted for 30 days during the hours of operation. Failure to maintain posting as required will result in a civil penalty of $100.00.
