32 | Indoor activity space for infants was observed to be physically separate from space used by children in the child care center components.
All outdoor and indoor passageways and other areas of potential hazard were observed to be free of obstruction. The child care center was observed be clean, safe, sanitary and indoor classrooms in good repair. Floors of all rooms have a surface that is safe and clean. A comfortable temperature for children was observed to be maintained at all times. The infant care center was observed to be equipped with appropriate furniture and equipment including, but not limited to, cribs and cots; changing tables; and feeding chairs. Tables and chairs were observed to be meet the needs of the children. LPAs advised furniture shall be maintained in good repair and safe condition.
The type, height and size of furniture and equipment shall be age appropriate. LPAs advised Swings, playpens and all such equipment and furniture shall be assembled or installed according to the manufacturer's instructions and shall be maintained in good repair and safe condition. Classroom toys were observed to be safe, and without sharp points or edges or splinters, or be made of small parts that can be pulled off and swallowed. LPAs advised rattles shall be large enough so that they cannot become lodged in an infant's throat and constructed so that they will not separate into small pieces.
LPAs observed each child has an individual permanent space for his/her clothing, personal belongings and/or bedding. All materials and surfaces accessible to children, including toys, were observed to be free of toxic substances.
Drinking water was observed to be available with the use of water cooler system. The water cooler was observed with a hot water tab the facility has secured and made inaccessible to children. The water cooler was located in the walk way between Room 1 and Room 2. Per licensee they handle pest control to take measures to keep the center free of flies, other insects, and rodents. All containers used for storage of solid wastes were observed to have tight fitting lids. No fireplaces or open-faced heaters were observed in Rooms 1 or 2. All window screens were observed to be in good repair and free of insects, dirt and debris.
Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, poisons and other items that could pose a danger if readily available to children were observed to be stored where inaccessible to children. LPAs advise storage areas for poisons shall be locked. LPA observed a current edition of a first-aid manual, sterile first-aid dressings, bandages or roller bandages, adhesive tape, scissors, tweezers, thermometer, and antiseptic solution. page 2
