On 2/8/2023 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Chandler made an announced visit to the Growing Place Santa Monica Early Childhood Lab for the purpose of conducting a "Case Management - Licensee Initiated" inspection. The center is requesting to increase the centers toddler capacity from 20 to 24 children. The centers has two existing classrooms ( room 1 and 2), dedicated to their toddler option program for children ages 18 - 36 months. The center is also requesting to change the age group for the infants to 3 - 2 4 months. There will be no increase to the infant component. LPA was provided a tour of the center and measurements were taken for rooms 1 and 2, and the outdoor activity area.

The two classrooms share one restroom with 3 sinks, additional equipment or aids shall be made available to assist children in accessing the sinks that are attached to the changing tables.

LPA reminded the director that ratios must be maintained at all times, per Title 22, section 101416.5

Based on the measurements and observation that were observed during todays inspection, the center shall be recommended for an increase from 20 - 24 toddlers, and the age range for the infant component will be revised to; Infants ages 3 - 24 months at the centers request.

Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with facility representative and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource.

LPA also informed facility representative of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.

A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
