32 | Water cycles from water tank back to spout of the creek. Water tank is approximately 10 gallons. Facility is currently working on written procedures for creek procedures and will provide LPA copy before the end of the inspection.
In the event of rainfall, water tank, is completely drained to allow water to cycle back without the possibility of an overflow. The day-to-day cleaning of the creek is completed by the teachers who sweep the creek at the end of the day. Teacher work with children, reminding children that sand does not go into the creek. Building support cleans the creek daily; swept, shoveled and leaf blower is used to ensure creek remains free of debris.
LPA observed the on and off button to operate the creek. Per director, the creek is on from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. except when it rain or when windy. Per director, the velocity of the water can be changed if needed. When touring the facility families toured the whole campus including the creek that is located in the outdoor space. Once enrolled and/or registered parents are reminded to bring extra clothing for children because of the opportunity for water play in the creek.
The creek’s deepest point when water is running, is located at the end of the creek and it measures 3 1/4 inches. The middle of the creek, when water is running measures measures 2 7/8 inches. The shallowest point of the creek, when water is running measures about 1/8 of an inch.
The width of the bed creek measures:
- 6ft and 3 inches at the end of the creek but water line to water water line measures 3ft. and 3 inches
- 5 ft. 4 inches at the middle of the creek but water line to water line measures 2ft.
- 3 ft at the top of the creek near the spout but water line to water line measures 11 inches
The creek measures 41 ft. long and it takes about 45.72 second for water to reach the end of the creek when water is turned on. Two drains were observed at the end of the creek that drains to the water tank. Water tank was observed covered, made inaccessible to the children in care.
No deficiencies were cited during today’s inspection in accordance to the California Code of Regulations Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 1 and California Health and Safety Code.
An exit interview was conducted, and a copy of report with Notice of Site Visit was provided with director Jennifer Shpall.
