32 | stayed behind with Staff One (S1). 10 children went on the field trips with Staff Three (S3), which does maintain child staff ratio.
Interviews disclosed that when children are not following directions at the daycare some of the consequences are that the staff talks to the children about their behavior, staff has a conversation with children's parents, children are asked to sit down for while and then they can go play, children are asked to write standards for more serious behaviors and lastly they can be excluded from going on the extra curricular fields trips for a certain amount of days depending on the behavior. Per interviews, children did not disclose any distress when discussing the consequences for not following directions. LPA and Director discussed other methods of discipline that might be used besides standards.
Per interviews and record review when children sustain an injury in care teachers take out the first aid kit and help the child by cleaning the injured area and giving them a Band-Aid. Children are sometime are given the option to sit down for a while until feeling better. According to interviews and document review, Injury Reports are given to parents at pick up or depending on the severity of the injury a phone call is made to the parent during the day. Interviews made no disclosure regarding concerns about unexplained injuries or documentation/notification of children's injuries.
Interviews regarding parent consent for a field trip on 7/6/21 are conflicting. Interview with Staff Two (S2) disclosed that none of the parents on the morning on 7/6/21 said their child/children were not allowed to go on the days field trip. Per Director, parents sign a field trip form allowing children to go on all field trips for the year and they are kept in a binder. Director was not able to locate the binder during inspection. Per Director parents are made aware of the field trips a month in advance via a printed calendar and a weekly sign that is updated every Friday for the following week. All children (except excluded or parent declination) go on the free trips. The field trip on 7/6/21 was a free trip. Director did provide LPA with a copy of the monthly field trip calendar for the month of July that was given to parents. On two different occasions LPA observed a board in the main entrance where the children are dropped off detailing the weeks activities, including field trips.
Although the allegations may have happened or are valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove
the alleged violation(s) did or did not occur, therefore the allegations are unsubstantiated.
