32 | The classroom furniture and equipment were inspected for good repair, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. All indoor classrooms were inspected to ensure that the floors have a surface that is safe and clean. All materials and surfaces accessible to children are toxic free.
The facility has 3 outdoor playgrounds for children in care which are fenced. The first one is located right upon entrance of the facility, which is a hardtop where children in care ride tricycles. The second is right behind the facility and is turf area where there are tables and toys for children in care. The third is a large sand area that is next to the turf area and is divided by a gate. Per Director, the sand is observed every morning by the teachers before children have access. The sand is also racked every Friday by the gardener. In the sand area there are multiple toys and playhouses for children in care. Outdoor playground equipment is in safe condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards. All areas around or under high climbing equipment, swings, slides, and similar equipment are cushioned with material that absorbs a fall. There is adequate shade in the play yard.
When a child becomes ill, they are isolated in the Art room. There is also a mat available if needed.
The facility provides AM and PM snacks for children in care daily and provides lunch only on Mondays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays parents provide children lunch from home or can order lunch through a third party vendor and is delivered to the facility daily. LPA reminded the Director, food that is brought from home must be stored properly and in closed containers. There is a kitchen on site and was observed to be clean, and the cleaning compounds/solutions were found to be away from the food. Storage areas are clean, free of litter, rubbish, and rodents/vermin. All storage containers for solid waste, including moveable bins, have tight fitting covers on and are in good repair. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, poisons and other items that are dangerous to children are stored in an area inaccessible to children. The facility takes measures to keep the facility free of flies, other insects, and rodents. Per Director there are no weapons, firearms, or bodies of water on the premises.
LPA observed a hardwired smoke detector and a functioning carbon monoxide detector. LPA observed a 2A-10BC fire extinguisher. The valve on the fire extinguisher was pointing to the fully charged green section but had not been serviced since 11/29/2023. Director stated that the fire department had not come to service them yet. LPA reminded Director, that fire extinguishers must be serviced yearly. Emergency disaster drill was last conducted on 01/22/2025.
