25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Warren Birks conducted an unannounced annual required inspection. LPA met with Licensee Sarah Haley who guided LPA on a tour of the facility. Also present was Licensee's cleared assistant who was helping to care for 11 children. There are currently 14 children enrolled. The children's roster needs to be updated. Disaster drill log was also available during today’s inspection. Last drill conducted on June 1st, 2021.
This is a one story home which consists of 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Areas used by the children include a den/day care area, one restroom, and back yard. LPA informed Licensee to contact the department if she wants to use other areas of the home and make sure hazards are inaccessible. Per Licensee, areas off limits to children and parents include: garage, living room, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and part of the backyard (inaccessible by fence). LPA observed baby gates preventing access to off limit areas.
Areas accessible to children were inspected to ensure that they are clean and orderly with ventilation and heating for the safety of the children. There is a working telephone maintained in the home. Licensee has two pet dogs that are kept away from the day-care children. Detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, and other items which can pose a danger to children are inaccessible. LPA informed Licensee that poisons must be locked with a key or combination lock.
LPA observed a firearm in a locked off-limits area that was locked and secure. Per Licensee, there are no bodies of water on the premises. Safe toys, play equipment and materials were observed. Emergency Disaster Plan and License was posted. Children’s records were reviewed to ensure that each child has an Identification and Emergency form. The valve on the required 2A 10BC fire extinguisher indicates fully charged, however there was no service date within a year. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the dining room were tested and are in operable condition. The Licensee and Assistant have current EMS approved Pediatric First Aid and CPR, (expires on 03/2023) and the Mandated Reporter Training. |
