25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPAs) Bardo Baluyot conducted an unannounced required annual inspection of the above facility. LPA met with Yvonne Abasta, Head Start Teacher who guided analyst on a tour of the facility. Teacher Assistant Blanca Tejeda was also present. Child Development Supervisors, Kathy Jarvey and Ryan Martinez arrived at 10:15. This is a Head Start preschool program that is operated by Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. The facility is located at Cedarlane Elementary and Middle School. The center hours are composed of one session (8:30 AM to 12:00 PM), Monday through Friday. Per Ms. Abasta, they have been on a special schedule this entire first week back to help the children acclimate. Children are split into smaller group sessions and attend for one hour. Normal schedule will resume next week. Per Ms. Abasta she has 15 children currently enrolled. LPA observed 4 children present during the inspection.
LPA inspected the classroom, named the Head Start Room, including the outdoor area which is fully fenced.
Parents enter the facility through Fieldgate Avenue. Children are signed in upon entrance to the classroom where a daily sign-in binder is available at the podium. Per Ms. Jarvey, District does not require staff to conduct temperature checks upon entry. Staff are being more vigilant with their daily health checks and have the option to check temperatures if they feel the need. LPA observed all staff and children wearing masks.
Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. Storage for children's belongings and an isolation area were inspected. The Staff Office located inside the classroom will be used as an isolation area for ill children. Children enrolled in this program will not be napping however, a cot or mat will be needed for the isolation area to accommodate ill children. Cubbies are available for at least 24 children’s belongings. LPA observed an operable carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector.
