The Orange County Child Care Office received a complaint on 11/6/2023 alleging (1) Staff are not administering medication(s) to day care child in care as necessary, (2) Facility is operating out of ratio, (3) Staff do not ensure that hazardous items are inaccessible to day care children while in care, and (4) Facility is in disrepair.
Reporting party (RP) mentioned the staff is not administering their child's medications daily as directed, the facility is enrolling more students without having a sufficient amount of teachers to cover, classrooms and play areas are not properly kept, and nails sticking out of walls, kids picking up sharp objects in their reach as well as laying around the play yard (razors, rocks, glass, nails/screws).
On 11/7/2023 LPA’s Thompson and Navar interviewed six staff. Out of six staff, four staff had knowledge of two children currently enrolled that have or may have had medication. LPA’s reviewed medication release forms for the two children as well as parent consent for administration of medications and medication charts.
All six staff interviewed had knowledge of staffing ratios and stated they have never been out of ratio or witnessed other staff being out of ratio. On 11/7/2023 and 11/8/2023 the facility was operating within its licensed capacity and within compliance with staffing ratios.
While touring the inside and outside of the facility on 11/7/2023 and 11/8/2023, LPA’s Thompson and Navar didn’t observe any hazardous items. During staff interviews, all staff stated they haven’t observed (razors, rocks, glass, nails/screws). One staff member mentioned a sharp object was left on the play yard during construction and was located by staff. That staff member stated children were not present and staff usually walk the play yard prior to children playing outside.
On 11/7/2023, LPA Thompson conducted parent interviews. LPA contacted 11 parents via phone call. Out of 11 parents, five (5) parents were able to be interviewed. The parents interviewed did not divulge any information regarding the allegations.
