25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Michelle Pascual met with acting Director, Lucia Vargas to conduct an unannounced case management inspection regarding lead testing. During today's inspection there was a census of 51 preschool children being supervised by 12 staff. The purpose of today's inspection was to create a plan of correction following reports of lead exceedance in a few of the facility outlets.
On 03/31/2023, the facility tested water samples for lead. The lead testing identified that three water outlets have lead exceedance over the amount of 5.5ppb. The water outlets sampled are identified as letters, K, L and N. Sample K is the preschool faucet in the "threes" room, which has a measure of 12.7 ppb. Sample L is the faucet in the "Twos" room, which has a measure of 8.82 ppb. Sample N, is the kitchen faucet, which has a measurement of 8.41ppb.
Usage of the faucets was stopped immediately, with water being turned completely off rendering the faucets inaccessible, upon receiving the results. Water jugs are being utilized as a source of water and alternate water faucets are utilized for hand washing. The school will have their maintenance worker turn on the water in the morning, to flush it out, and than turn it back off. A work request was sent to Kindercare administration to have the faucets fixed and/or replaced. Once work is completed, the faucets will be retested and facility will inform LPA of results prior to turning water back on and utilizing the faucets.
