Restrooms: Both classroom had two children restrooms, with one toilet and one sink. PS 5 was equipped with a staff restroom. All restrooms were observed to be in safe and sanitary operating condition. Toilets and sinks are functioning properly and are age appropriate. Paper towels and soap were available to the children.
Meals: The Center provides one meal during each of the sessions. The meals are prepared in the school cafeteria. Menus were posted in the classroom.
Napping: This is a half day program therefore, the children do not nap while in care. A quite area was available in the classroom for those who need a quite activity.
Outdoor: The preschool program utilizes Abraham Lincoln Elementary School kindergarten outdoor play area. LPA inspected the outdoor play space for health, safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness. The area has one large play structure approved for children ages 2-5. The large play structure has five slides. The cushioning material under the play structure was rubber matting. The large play structure was securely anchored to the ground. The area was observed to be free of debris at the time of this inspection. Drinking fountains are located within the play yard for the children.
Personnel/Child Records
LPA reviewed four personnel files during this inspection. Per LPAs review one of four personnel records did not contain documentation of the required mandated reporter training. Per LPAs review the mandated reporter training completed by the other three staff members was completed through Vector Solutions, which is not an approved alternative mandated reporter training. LPA issued a technical advisory notice regarding the require mandated reporter training. LPA completed a review of five child files, based on LPA review all child files were complete and contained the required information.
Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. For child care center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 (PIN 21-21.1-CCP). LPA verified that the lead testing was completed in accordance to the Written Directives outlined in PIN 21-21.1-CCP.
