25 | On May 29, 2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Kris Diaz, conducted an unannounced Annual/Random inspection. LPA met with Licensee, Linda Fowlie-Peters, who granted access and guided LPA on a tour of the home. People who reside in the home are the Licensee who is live scanned and has TB skin test on file. The large family childcare home operates 23 hours per day 7 days per week. Licensee was advised that a staff member must always be awake when children are awake. At the time of the visit there were 4 children present (including 1 infant) with 1 staff member. During the visit, two volunteers and 5 other children arrived. Per licensee, her minor granddaughters volunteer and assist when needed. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) were discussed and per licensee, there are currently no children in care that require IMS.
This is a one-story home with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, playroom, and garage. Children have access to the living room (converted for childcare), dining room, playroom, the side yard, and bathroom down the hallway to the left. Off-limit areas of the home are the bedrooms made off-limits with locks on the doors, the backyard made off limits with a lock on the door, and the garage made off-limits with a safety lock on the door. There is no swimming pool/body of water on the premises. LPA observed a dog that ran from an off-limits room. Per licensee, she is pet sitting and the dog stays in the off-limits area.
The home was inspected inside for comfort, cleanliness, telephone service, heating, and ventilation. Medications are stored in the licensee’s bedroom inaccessible to children. The kitchen knives are stored in an upper kitchen cabinet inaccessible to children. Cleaning compounds are stored in the washroom inaccessible to children.
The First Aid kit is located in the childcare room on a high shelf inaccessible to children. Per licensee, there are no weapons or firearms in the home. LPA did not observe any weapons or firearms. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are in operable condition. The Fire Extinguisher is green, fully charged, and meets the standards of the State Fire Marshal.
