On August 2, 2023, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Kuliema Calloway, made an unannounced visit to the Adventurous Learning Group. LPA met with S1 who granted access. The purpose of the inspection was to deliver complaint findings. LPA toured the facility and observed 5 school aged children, 14 napping preschoolers, 5 napping toddlers, and 6 staff members.
During the investigation, LPA conducted interviews with staff, parents, children, and all parties involved. For each allegation, the evidence corroborates as follows: Allegation #1- Personal Rights, Staff mistreats the day care children. Allegation #2- Personal Rights- Staff yells at the day care children. Allegation #3- Personal Rights- Staff handles the day care children in a rough manner. Allegation #4- Personal Rights- Staff speaks inappropriately to the day care children, and Allegation #5- Personal Rights- Staff threatens day care children. Therefore, based on interviews, all above listed allegations on Personal Rights are Substantiated, the Preponderance of the evidence standard has been met on all the allegations.
Per Title 22 Regulations, Division 12, Chapter 1, there are two (2) Type A deficiencies cited during this visit. 101223(a)(1) and 101223 (a)(3) on Personal Rights.

Type A citation which shall be posted for 30 consecutive days as there is an immediate risk to the health, safety, or personal rights of children in care.

LPA informed the Director to provide a copy of this licensing report dated 8/2/2023 along with a copy of the Type A deficiencies to parents/guardians of all children currently enrolled by the next business day or the next day the children are in care, and to any newly enrolled parents/guardians for 12 months from the date of this report. A signed Acknowledgement of Receipt of Licensing Report (LIC 9224), or other written statement, must be placed in the child's file for verification.

Exit interview was conducted and a copy of this report was read, Notice of Site Visit and Appeals Rights were discussed and provided to Erika Saltzman, Director. A Notice of Site visit shall be posted and must remain posted for thirty (30) consecutive days. Failure to maintain posting is subject to a $100 civil penalty.

The Director installed video cameras inside the classrooms and areas where care is provided for monitoring teachers and will provide class by class training on Personal Rights.
