On 08/07/2024 at 8:50 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Gabriela Hernandez conducted an unannounced inspection at Learning Jungle Valley Center and met with Assistant Director Nialea Guachena. The purpose of the inspection was to deliver the findings on the above stated allegation. The investigation included an inspection of the facility and review of documents on 05/29/2024. In addition, LPA interviewed 4 staff member including Interim Director.

On 05/22/2024, Community Care Licensing (CCL) received information that staff withheld lunch from day care children. Regarding the allegation that staff withheld lunch from day care children, 4 of 4 staff interview revealed lunch was withheld from day care children. Although it was confirmed that staff removed a sandwich from C1’s lunch bag, it was also confirmed that the sandwich was removed to ensure the safety of the other children in care. The sandwich contained peanut butter and there is a policy in place that prohibits any form of nuts on the premise. Per policy written on parent handbook, the childcare center is a nut-free environment.

Based on interviews and records review, the allegation that staff withheld lunch from day care children may have occurred, however is not supported, or proven by evidence. Therefore, the allegation is UNSUBSTANTIATED at this time.

An exit interview was conducted, a copy of this report, appeal rights and Notice of Site Visit were provided to Assistant Director. The Assistant Director was reminded that the Notice of Site Visit must remain posted for 30 consecutive days.
