LPA Saraliz Velando, conducted an unannounced case management for a capacity increase. This visit is to verify that the licensee remains in substantial compliance with the health & safety standards as required by regulations governing large family childcare homes. LPA met with licensee, Zainab Al Sammarie. LPA observed 1 child in care today. Licensee has all appropriate forms posted. LPA confirmed with licensee that all adults residing/working in the home have criminal record/TB clearances. The home appears to be large enough to comfortably accommodate 14 children. Fire clearance was received on 2/23/24.

The licensee has a two-level home with 4-bedrooms, 3-bathrooms. The following areas are used for daycare: Living room 1, Living room 2, Bathroom 1, and Backyard. Off limits area includes: Kitchen, Living room 3, Dining room, All of the 2nd floor, and garage. There is a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector in the living room 2 area, and they are both functional and meet regulations. The fire extinguisher located in the kitchen area also meets regulations. The home has electrical outlet covers. There are no wall heaters, however there is a fireplace in Living room 2 and Living room 3 and they have both been screened to be inaccessible to children. Licensee stated no weapons or ammunition in the home and LPA did not observe any. Licensee has a hot tub/jacuzzi on the property, in the backyard that has a cover and locks in place, it is also barricaded to be inaccessible to children. Per licensee, operating hours are from 4:00am-1:00pm, Monday thru Sunday.

Storage for poisons, detergents, cleaning solutions, medications are inaccessible by safety latches. Licensee’s last fire drill was conducted 4 months ago on 9/21/23. The home is kept clean and orderly with heating and ventilation for safety and comfort.

Pediatric CPR and First Aid card for provider will expire May 2025. Licensee is exempt from Mandated Reporter Training because she speaks mostly Arabic. There is a working telephone and email address.

LPA reviewed the following: required departmental documents, regulation highlights, community resources, capacity limitations, supervision, clearances, emergency drills, heat-related illness, child passenger law, unusual incidents, mandated reporting, Assembly Bill 633, SIDS, Safe sleep regulations, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Megan's law and Covid information. Applicant is reminded that corporal punishment, smoking, walkers, exersaucers, jumpers and bouncy seats shall never be permitted during daycare operation. An exit interview was conducted with licensee, Zainab Al Sammarie.

No deficiencies were cited. A large license will be granted upon final file review. A notice of site visit was issued and shall remain posted for 30 days.
