On 08/10/22 at 9:59 a.m., Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Rajani Goudreau arrived at the facility to conduct a licensee-initiated case management inspection. Upon arrival LPA met with met with Director, Christina Jimenez and proceeded to tour the facility. There were 11 infants in care with three staff members present in classroom #5. Facility is requesting a capacity increase of 39 infants; ages 6 weeks through 2 years old in classrooms #1 and #5. In addition, facility is requesting to add classroom #1 in order to accommodate the requested capacity. Facility operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The classrooms were inspected during this inspection. Classroom #1 measured a total of 642.65 square feet. Classroom #5 was previously measured on October 13, 2020 and measured a total of 714.14 square feet. Classrooms #1 and #5 measured a total of 1,356.79  square feet which is sufficient to accommodate 38 children. Due to insufficient indoor space the capacity will have to be lowered. Classroom #5 has a separate area for napping, including cribs and rocking chairs. The napping area is not included in the indoor square footage calculation. Classroom #1 will be for older infants; therefore cots will be utilized for napping, if the children are able to climb out of a crib. The classrooms are equipped with cubbies, toys, age appropriate equipment, furniture, supplies, materials for the children’s use. There is a diapering area located in each of the classroom, containing one changing table within arm’s reach of a sink. Classroom #5 has one restroom with one toilet and one sink available for the children's use. In addition, there is a sink in each of the classrooms (#1 & #5) available for the children's use. There is insufficient toilets or potty chairs based on the requested capacity. Director understands the sink near the diaper changing tables shall not be used for food preparation.  Drinking water is readily available inside and outside through the use of refillable water containers and sippy cups brought from home or provided by the facility. The isolation area for ill children is located in the director’s office and the designated restroom for ill children is located in the staff restroom in the lobby. There is a carbon monoxide detector in the facility and a first aid kit with required supplies. Required documents are posted in the hallway of the facility.

The outdoor play yard for the infants is shared with facility #376701131, Copley-Price Family YMCA Preschool. The pre-school play structure is separated by the use of a fence. The facility will bring out rolling carts with age appropriate play equipment during outdoor play activities. LPA reviewed the outdoor play equipment and toys to be age appropriate. Outdoor play yard for the infants was previously measured on October 13, 2020 and measured a total of 4,730.07 square feet, which is sufficient to accommodate 63 infants. There is adequate shade in the outdoor play yard via a building overhang, shade kite, and trees. Proper supervision and placement of staff during outdoor activities was advised to ensure the safety of children in care at all times. Outdoor playground waiver for shared outdoor space with the preschool license, granted on October 20, 2020 shall be updated due to capacity increase.

A fire clearance for 39 infants in classrooms #1 and #5 was granted on August 08, 2022.

The following is pending with a due date of August 26, 2022:
    • LIC200A - Application with updated requested capacity due to insufficient indoor space.
    • Toilets or potty chairs available based on the requested capacity.
    • Updated outdoor waiver request due to shared space.
