25 | On September 13th, 2024 at approximately 8:40 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Janet Gil conducted an unannounced, annual inspection. LPA met with director, Christine Mercado, and explained the purpose of the inspection.
Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Facility operates from Oceana High School location. Present during inspection included 37 children with 8 staff members (including director). Facility is operating within capacity requirements and ratios at time of LPA's inspection. Facility has two active licenses, one for the preschool program and one for the infant program. Preschool Program operates out of three classrooms. Preschool Licensed classrooms are the Starlight Room, Moonlight Room, and the Sunshine Room.
LPA and director inspected facility, indoors and outdoors, for health and safety hazards. LPA observed classrooms to be clean, equipped with age appropriate toys, materials, and furniture. LPA observed electrical outlets to be made inaccessible with outlet covers and furniture. LPA also observed covered trash cans in each classroom. Storage for children's belongings are located inside each classroom, labeled with each child's individual names. LPA observed classrooms to have enough sleeping cots available for all children in care. Per director, parents take home and wash sheets weekly.
LPA observed facility has an installation of a fire alarm system throughout the entire building. LPA observed a carbon monoxide detector in the Starlight Room and the Moonlight Room. LPA tested carbon monoxide detector in Moonlight classroom, which was observed to be working. Each classroom has a fully stocked and accessible first aid kit backpack. Facility has multiple fire extinguishers located throughout the building. All poisons, cleaning solutions and hazardous materials are stored inaccessible to children on facility's high shelves and facility off limit storage area.
LPA observed children's bathrooms to be clean and in proper working condition. Facility provides all food services. Facility provides breakfast, lunch, and additional snack. Water is available to children indoors and outdoors with children's water bottles and/or pitchers.
