25 | Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Janette Cruz and Farida Raja met with Tarika Chawla, Enrollment Director, for an unannounced case management inspection in response to facility’s request to approve an outdoor play yard extension that used to be an off-limit area. Present during the inspection were 64 children and 10 staff. LPAs were taken on a guided tour of the play yard extension area and observed the following: The area is gated and located behind the outdoor playground. The area is paved with concrete surface. Shade is provided via trees. There is locked storage shed used to store the washer, dryer and outdoor toys for daycare use. LPAs observed there are three exits in the area: leading to the outdoor playground, the front lawn and the gated right side outdoor area.
Director stated that the play yard extension shall be used for organized activities and space where children can ride tricycles. Water bottles will be used and taken outside each time the children are in the area..
The capacity remains unchanged at 167 preschool children. Hours of operation: 6:30 am-6:30pm, Monday to Friday. The San Jose Regional office received an APPROVED fire clearance from the San Jose Fire Department on 02/13/2023
OUTDOOR MEASUREMENTS:
(49.000 x 14.000) + (31.250 x 18.583) less encumbered space (8.833 x 12.167) + (4.750x 3.750)
(1266.719) - (125.283) = 1141.436 sq. feet
Outdoor play area has enough space for 15 children. LPA reminded that children must be supervised at all times. Director stated that there will be a dedicated teacher to supervise the play yard extension area.
LPAs conducted an exit interview with Tarika Chawla, Enrollment Director, and advised her that the outdoor play yard extension is to be approved for use as of 02/22/2023. No deficiencies were cited during this visit
