25 | On 10/6/2023 at 8:04am Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Morgan Pringle met with Director Henry Lam, for an Unannounced Required 1-Year Inspection. The facility is located on the AMES NASA Research Center Campus in building N-270. During the inspection there were thirty-six (36) preschool age children and ten (10) additional staff present. Four (4) classrooms, (Apollo, Vanguard, Explorer, and Gemini) were toured for a health and safety inspection. The facility operates 7:00am – 6:00pm, Monday – Friday. The facility is dual licensed and holds an infant license as well (Facility # 434408036).
The facility has ample age-appropriate materials in the classrooms that were observed to be clean and in good condition. All toxins, cleaning products, children’s medication, and hazardous materials were observed to be in inaccessible areas. The children’s bathrooms were observed to be clean, well maintained, free of defects with ample number of sinks and toilets that are in proper working order. The diapering areas were observed to be clean, properly cushioned, and free from any defects. The facility uses child sized mats for sleeping and all children bring their own napping materials. All equipment used for napping was observed to be clean, free from defects and properly stored. There are multiple fully charged fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, and smoke detectors on site. Facility does not transport children.
All food prep areas were observed to be clean and free from defects. The facility is a part of CACFP (California Child Food Program). The facility provides food for the children. Children also can bring their own food from home. All food that is brought from the children’s home was observed to be properly labeled and stored. All children bring their own water bottles and have access to clean drinking water on site as well.
