Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Marilou Monico, met with Preschool Director (Vidyarambh Stevens Creek location), Sulakshana Shravage, and Office Admin, Nandini Jaiprakash, for a case management inspection in response to waiver request to share outdoor areas with different programs.

LPA toured the facility as well as measured the following indoor and outdoor areas:

INDOOR MEASUREMENTS
Classroom 1 (Narmada): 32.417 x 28.750 = 931.988 minus 85.481 (encumbered space) = 846.507
Classroom 2 (Kaveri): 30.167 x 28.833 = 869.805 minus 52.043 (encumbered space) = 817.762
TOTAL PRESCHOOL INDOOR SPACE: 1,664.269 sq. ft. divided by 35 = 47 children.

OUTDOOR MEASUREMENTS
Yard IIA: 39.750 x 43.833 = 1,742.361 minus 57.774 (encumbered space) = 1,684.587
Yard IIB: 32.000 x 30.833 = 986.656 minus 204.689 (encumbered space) = 781.967
Yard III: 56.417 x 53.333 = 3,008.887
+19.000 x 16.250 = 308.75
Yard III total = 3,317.637 minus 23.348 (encumbered space) = 3,294.289
TOTAL PRESCHOOL OUTDOOR SPACE:5,760.843 sq ft divided by 75 = 76 children

LPA informed Sulakshana that the capacity of the preschool program will be reduced to 24 children when the Heritage Program is occupying Classroom 2. Sulakshana understands that the Heritage and preschool are separate programs and the children cannot commingle at any time when both programs are in operation.
There are 4 sinks (60) and 4 toilets (60) available for the children (2 toilets and 2 sinks in each classroom). There are 49 chairs, 8 tables, 21 cots, and 72 cubbies. Sulakshana states that some of the children will be attending on a part time basis and will not nap at the center.

There is a separate staff bathroom located across the Staff Room that will be used by sick children if needed. Sick children will be isolated in the Staff Room and isolation equipment will be provided.

The yards are surrounded with appropriate fencing and the outdoor surfaces are safe. Shades are provided by canopies and building overhang in Yard IIA and Yard III. Shades in Yard IIB are provided by building overhang and trees. LPA observed synthetic grass/rubber foam as resilient materials under the climbing structures in Yard III. In Yard IIA, LPA observed tanbarks as cushioning under the play structure. Drinking water is available indoor and outdoor via individual water bottles.

Sulashana was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

The following items must be completed prior to approval of the waiver request:
1) Since the preschool indoor space is measured for only 47 children and the facility is licensed for a capacity of 59, the facility is requested to consider reduction of capacity from 59 to 47 children.
2) Application for a Child Care Center License (LIC 200A) to change the capacity
3) Updated facility sketch
4) Fire clearance for 47 children
5) Community Care Licensing Management review

There were no deficiencies cited.
A NOTICE OF SITE VISIT WAS GIVEN AND MUST REMAIN POSTED FOR 30 DAYS.
