32 | Indoor areas of the facility were inspected by the LPA today and observed to be clean, orderly, and safe for the day care children. The facility has two classrooms, "Honu" for ages 3-4 and "Monarch" for ages 4-5. LPA advised Jonnie on steps to adjust licensed ages to start at two years old. Furniture, such as tables, chairs, and shelves, are in good condition and safe for children. The floors were clean and free of tripping hazards. Drinking water is readily available for children via water dispensers and water bottles labeled with the children’s names. The children’s bathrooms are clean, sanitary, and operable. There is a working telephone in the facility. The facility does not provide food, all children enrolled provide their own food/meals. Jonnie states that parents are encouraged to pack food that does not need refrigeration.
The outdoor area of the facility was inspected and observed to be fenced in. LPA advised climbing structures for children should be secured to the ground. During todays inspection, LPA observed children playing in the front outside space, engaged in activities such as exploration with slime, water painting, and playing other small activities with other children and staff. LPA observed play equipment was in good condition, age-appropriate, and has sufficient resilient materials (tanbark) to absorb falls. There are garden boxes, sandboxes, climbing structures, and other nature exploration activities for the children. No outdoor bodies of water were observed during today’s inspection. Shaded rest area is provided by canopy and Jonnie states she has additional canopies and tarps that are utilized as needed on sunny days.
Five children's files and four staff files were reviewed and all required documents were present. There is at least one staff member with current First-Aid/CPR that expires 8/11/2023 and current Mandated Reporter training that expires 9/18/2024. LPA advised that both shall be renewed every two years.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center.
