25 | On 7/19/2023, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Joseph Pacheco conducted an announced case management inspection and met with Director, Tanya Vander Weide. Facility was closed on this date. No children were present during the inspection. Licensee is Salida Union School District. LPA explained the reason for the inspection and a tour of the center was conducted both inside and outside. Licensee is requesting to have rebuilt Classroom 34 as a licensed classroom. Facility also utilizes Classroom 33 and 37. Facility is currently licensed for 55 preschool children and is located on the southwest corner of the campus of Mildred Perkins Elementary School and has its own separate entrance. This facility will operate from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday on a traditional school year schedule.
Director stated that the center will provide an afternoon snack, breakfast and lunch. Food is prepared at the Mildred Perkins Elementary School cafeteria and delivered to the facility daily. The cleaning supplies are stored in a cabinet which is inaccessible to children. Staff will utilize the bathroom in Room 35 which is the Administrative building. There is also a designated staff bathroom in Classroom 33. Ill children will utilize the two staff bathrooms and be isolated in the Director’s office.
The classrooms were observed to be clean and free of toxins. LPA observed that the furniture and equipment appeared to be safe and in good condition. There are enough tables, chairs, cots, and plenty of toys for preschool children to play with. LPA reminded Director not to store anything on top of high bookcases that could potentially fall on children. There is a working carbon monoxide detector on the premises.
LPA reviewed with Director that any future changes to the classrooms are required to ensure that furniture does not tip over on to children, the furniture is to be anchored or situated that tipping does not occur. Classroom changes of furniture shall be situated that 100% visual supervision is always provided to children in care. Toys and equipment appear to be age appropriate. There is a total of 5 toilets and 7 sinks/hand washing fixtures which will accommodate the licensed capacity. LPA did not observe any hazards in the bathrooms. Director understands that staff are to escort children to and from the restroom and visual supervision is to be maintained at all times.
